Song – ‘Naadan Parindey’ Movie- Rockstar 2011

“kaaga re kaaga re mori itni araj tujhse chun chun khaiyo maans
khaiyo na tu naina more, khaiyo na tu naina mohe piya ke milan ki aas”

“O crow, I have so much of request to you, eat (my body’s) flesh,
but do not eat my eyes, don’t eat my eyes as I have a wish to see my lover..

These were lines uttered by a sufi saint named Sheikh Farid. There is an interesting story behind this Poem.

Sheikh Farid was once told by a Guru that to attain God one must practice great austerities. So as a way of doing penance he would hang himself upside down in a well everyday and stop just to drink water and eat a few grains. This continued for 12 years. During this time he became extremely weak and his body deteriorated completely with hardly any flesh left on his bones.

One day when he came out of the well and was lying down. A crow came and sat on his forehead thinking its a body of a dead man. Sheikh Farid disappointed thinking that he was going to die without witnessing god, urges the crow….

“kaaga re kaaga re mori itni araj tujhse chun chun khaiyo maans
khaiyo na tu naina more, khaiyo na tu naina mohe piya ke milan ki aas”

“O crow, my only request to you is to eat all the flesh on my body but spare my eyes as i have yet to witness God”.
