Pranayama helps clear two essential nadis (energy pathways) Ida and Pingala and subsequently charges the Kundalini with Prana itself, this can be literally understood as giving wind to fire where Kundalini who’s element is fire is stimulated by breathing through Pranayama. Awakening only through breathing alone would generally take 20-30 years.

Mantra Chanting

A “mantra” (Sanskrit: मन्त्र) is a sacred utterance, a numinous sound, a syllable, word or phonemes, or group of words. Mantra chanting is repeated utterance of a Mantra while focusing on the sound or vibration created by the chant itself. It is one of the easiest ways to gain higher states of consciousness and increased energy levels as it shuts all thoughts.

A guru helps choosing the right mantra for desired results and getting the pronunciation right, guided mantra chanting in the presence of a Guru reaps benefits much faster.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is where a sprcial kriya is taught to students under the supervision of a trained Guru. Kriya is an amalgmation of Yoga Asanas, Breathing Techniques, Chanting and Bandhas. This is a very self satisfying way of awakening kundalini as you work towards you own progress in the guidance of a Guru.

Shaktipath is the practice of transferring energy from Guru to practitioner through touch, vision or thought. This requires complete faith in guru and is done only when a person is stuck or unable to proceed further with one’s sadhana. It leads to instantaneous awakening and can be an overwhelming experience. Only a few gurus who have attained such yogic powers can perform Shaktipath, hence if you are considering this method you must choose your guru wisely.

Various cultures through out history have used herbs for partial or full awakening. This must be done under the supervision of a Shaman or Tantric, who has in depth knowledge of the science of using these herbs.
